TAX PREPARER DATA BREACH
In July 2023, a United State Senate investigation determined that technology companies most likely intercepted Consumers' "tax return information," in violation of 26 U.S.C. §§ 6713 and 7216 by embedding tracking technology in tax preparation websites and mobile tools that taxpayers used to prepare and file their personal income tax returns. The affected tax preparation companies include H&R Block, TaxSlayer, Jackson Hewitt, and Intuit TurboTax. You can read the report here: Senate Report.
If you used H&R Block, Intuit TurboTax, TaxSlayer, or Jackson Hewitt to prepare your 2019 through 2024 tax returns, your data may have been included.
Affected individuals may be eligible to receive $10,000 for each violation.
